HISTORY IS BEING MADE.....
HISTORY IS BEING MADE....
11:52am PST:
I know I said I wouldn't blog for a while, and I am not here to write about my personal life this morning, I am here to report something remarkable!
I have felt abundantly, unshakably proud of being an American two times in my life....I've always been proud to be an American on a day-to-day basis, sure. But, there have been only two times in my life where I have felt THIS proud of being an American; the days immediately following 9/11 and today! Regardless of who this country has chosen to be our next President, something terrific is happening today....
I could feel it the minute I stepped out my front door this morning! It's in the air! Voting frenzing, American Pride and change......CHANGE IS IN THE AIR!
(I love that I can say that and you still can't tell who I voted for because both candiates ran their campaigns on the basis of "change!").
There is something truly awesome happening in the United States today; we may be divided at the polls and we may have to end up agreeing to disagree; but, there is one thing we all agree on: VOTING!!!
Here in Clark County/Las Vegas, Nevada RECORD numbers of voters have already turned out. Over half a million people in Clark County voted early; myself included; and over one million will cast their ballots today!
Record numbers of voters are happening all across the country, and people are standing in line longer than usual and some even camped out, in order to make sure their votes would be counted today!
What a fantastic nation we have! And, I've read recently that everyone around the world has been interested in this election too, and that even people who don't live here wish they could vote! How cool is that!
I think that's because despite our current downfall and financial demise in the U.S., we're still a leader. People aroudn the world still look to us for direction and dreams. Now, I'm not saying we have either one of those anymore, but I still think at the end of the day, while not everyone may love and/or agree with the U.S., we're still at the forefront of being a role model for the world; and today, we have a fantastic opportunity (with either canidate) to re-posistion ourselves in the world, to re-create our image and to get back to being the leader!
At least I hope so, I'm not knieve, but I can certainly dream, can't I? Isn't that what being an American is all about anyway?
In our society, we use the "amazing," for everything; food, cars, homes, movies, etc, etc, etc.....but today, the true meaning of the word "amazing" is being played out!
I am SO incredibly proud of my fellow Americans and I am so proud to BE an American today!
Granted, we have our shortcomings, our unrealistic ideologies and attendency to look the other way at the real and pressing problems that plague our nation, but, there is something incredibly beautiful about going to vote! It's a privilage, a freedom and a responsibility! It is necessary for Democracy, and I think we as Americans, are fed up with the way things have gone for the last eight years! And today is our chance to change all of that. Well, maybe not all of it depending on who gets elected tonight, but still....SOME kind of change WILL happen this evening. And it truly is amazing!
I LOVE VOTING, it's a right I will always honor, respect & appreciate.
And even if the votes here on the West Coast don't count for as much as those on the East Coast (because they vote earlier than we do), who cares! Even if the Electoral College is the real deciding factor, who cares! It's a fantstic thing to be able to vote and like I mentioned earlier, I can feel the voting frenzy in the air!
Today,I can feel the pride of America; the pride in being able to vote, make a difference and stand up and be counted! And it's wonderful!
This is a day that I am so glad I'm around for, regardless of what happens later tonight and who we end up with as President, tomorrow, this is a day I will tell my children and grandchildren about. It is a day I am glad and proud to be living in full conciousness & rememberence, to be living this day of voting age and American Pride!
And the really cool thing is that people are saying that it's MY age group, the younger voters, who might end up deciding our President! 18-29 year olds, we're also voting in record numbers! That is just so cool! I love that! It makes so sense to me, because we are well aware of the fact that the way things are going, and have been going for quite some time, aren't working anymore. We're aware that we're the next generation of leaders; we're the next generation of workers/educators/care-givers. This is OUR country just as much as it is everyone else's, and it's my age group, and those under the voting age (18 years) that will feel the effect of this next President the most! So, no wonder we want a big hand in helping to decide who it is! I think we're deciding with the following things in mind: working hard to earn a dollar that actually goes somewhere. We all know the dollar ain't what it used tobe! Making sure our parents/grandparents will be taken care of too; they'll have health coverage and social security and we'll be able to afford to help take care of them when the time comes. We want to be able to buy homes too, save for our own retirement and give our children/grandchildren cleaner air, a more concious step on this earth and be accutely aware of our own place in this world. So yes, it makes perfect sense that my age grou imparticular would be very into voting this year!
But, regradless of one's age, race, class and/or gender, no matter what....EVERY VOTE COUNTS....even if from nothing more than a moral/ethical/patriotic standpoint!
So, whatever happens, here's to America and especially to us Americans, who rally when they have to and demand (some kind of) change when necessary!!!
God Bless us everyone and God Bless America!!!
In Light N' Love,
-Sarah Liz :)
P.S. Part of me wants to freeze this moment and this day; part of me doesn't want to know who's our next President. I'm kind of afraid of both canidates. I'm a bit hesitant about both of them and I'm feeling some real anxiety no matter which way this goes! And also, I question whether or not we can really recover in the next 4 years, I don't think we will. But at least, after tonight, we'll be on the ROAD to recovery, and that is what's so important!
So, here's power, privilage and beauty of voting! let's just hope we vote the right person for the job!
